Child Protection and Education

Help solve the challenges facing children and education

Child Protection and Education are two vital and interdependent sectors that work together to safeguard and promote the well-being of children in humanitarian settings. The overarching objective of both sectors is to ensure that children are protected from harm and have access to education, which in turn supports their development, safety, and resilience.

Protection of children is a fundamental responsibility that underpins every aspect of humanitarian response, and it is essential in enhancing positive outcomes in all areas, including education. The Convention on the Rights of the Child guarantees all children the right to protection from violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse, as well as the right to education. Quality education, when safe, inclusive, and culturally appropriate, is also inherently protective.

When Child Protection and Education sectors collaborate intentionally and effectively, the impact of their combined efforts goes far beyond what either sector could achieve alone. Working together not only strengthens the goals of each sector but also enables us to deliver more comprehensive and meaningful support to children in crisis-affected areas.

This collaborative approach helps ensure that children’s needs are met holistically—providing both the protection they require and the education that empowers them to rebuild their lives and communities. By creating a framework for systematic cooperation, this multi-agency training module guides Child Protection and Education actors in working together to better support children’s well-being in humanitarian emergencies.
